Demanding release of their pending wages, casual labourers of tourism department Tuesday held a protest demonstration in Handwara town.
Scores of labourers under the banner of Kashmir Tourism Department Casual Labourers Union assembled in tourist reception centre and raised slogans in support of their demand. Protesting labourers said their wages are pending for last four years now.
“We are facing the worst. For four years now, we are without wages. My mother is ill and I am not able to take her to hospital due to my weak financial,” said Rashid Ahmad protesting labourer.
“Despite an order from the Secretariat about release of our wages, till date the tourism department has not released a single penny,” a protesting labourer said.
While once again appealing the concerned department for immediate release, the protesting threatened to come out on the roads, if the tourism department fails to do so.
