Locals said they were on a Dharna (protest demonstration) in the market when police appeared on the scene and resorted to heavy teargas shelling injuring many of them.
"We are protesting for more than a month now for our genuine demands. But the administration is using force against us instead of listening to our genuine demands," Muhammad Ashraf, a representative of Khrew based Alkhudam truckers Union told Greater Kashmir.
However a police official said that some elements are creating law and order problem in the area.
The two truckers unions "are not allowing transportation of the cement produced in the area for more than a month now. They are fighting against each other over the share in the transportation."
Meanwhile SRTC Truckers Union had asked all its members to stop plying trucks on Friday against the attack on their trucks a day before.
An official handout had earlier said that the district administration shall take stringent action against the people trying to prevent transportation of the cement from the local factories here.
The government has decided to issue coupons to the truckers for ferrying cement from the factories and not to allow union interference in it, it said.
