The situation in Khrew area, here today continued to be tense after many protestors were injured in the police action on Friday.
The police was deployed in strength in the town today to thwart any further protests in the area.
The situation took ugly turn on Friday when some youth had attacked a police contingent while returning to Srinagar, a police official told Greater Kashmir.
Locals accused the police of committing excesses in the area. "They (the police) resorted to indiscriminate teargas and pellet shelling on the people. Scores of youth were injured in the police action including two persons who received pellet injuries in their eye," Muhammad Ashraf, representative of Saffron Truckers' Union told Greater Kashmir.
He identified the pellet injury victims as Gowhar Ahmed and Muhammad Iqbal. "Both the teenagers have been shifted outside state for treatment," he added.
The stalemate in the area which has led to the law and order problem stems from a rift between two truckers' unions in the area who are fighting over the share in transportation of cement from the factories located in the area.
