Create awareness about potential of floriculture among youth: Div Com

The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan on Wednesday said that the unemployed youth of the valley must reap benefits of floriculture industry.

He further said that the sector of floriculture has immensepotential for income and employment generation especially in the rural areas.Changing the living standard of the people and increasing urbanisation isincreasing the demand for flowers and flower products.

   

The Divisional Commissioner made these remarks whilereviewing the economic avenues for unemployed youth in the floriculture sector.

The meeting was informed that the valley has a lot of scopefor the floriculture industry which can produce the quality flowers. It hasbeen observed that flowers have high demand within and outside Kashmir. Kashmirhas good soil and weather conditions which are conducive for the growth of flowers.All these factors indicate that there is the immense scope of floriculture inour economy which will attract the attention of big investors across thecountry.

The Divisional Commissioner directed Director Floricultureto prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) in which identified areas, financialimplications, economic generation and benefits for unemployed youth should beclearly indicated and submit to the Divisional Commissioner’s office at anearliest for further course of necessary action.

He asked concerned officers to create mass awareness amongunemployed youth regarding the potential of the floriculture sector across thevalley so that they will earn their livelihood in a dignified manner andultimately the economic graph of the Kashmir Division will also be improved.

Additional Commissioner Kashmir TasaduqHussain Mir, DirectorFloriculture Abdul Hafiz Shah and other concerned officers were present in themeeting.
