Cross-LoC trade, bus suspended to carry repair work on Kaman Post bridge

In order to carry some repair work on the Kaman post bridge, the weekly cross-LoC bus service via Salamabad, Uri was suspended on Monday.

Authorities said thatcross-LoC trade via same route due to commence for the week on Tuesday willalso remain suspended for some days.    

   

“Due to the sustained use of Kaman Aman Setu for cross LoC trade for a long period, the bridge has suffered some damages which requires immediate repair to prevent further deportation.

Inspection of the bridge was carried out by representatives of GREF supported by army engineers on March 8, 2019 which indicate that the bridge needs urgent repairs and maintenance to ensure its longevity” said an official communication of trade facilitation centre Salamabad, Uri.

The repair work as per officials will require 10-15 days andtrade service will be suspended accordingly.

The suspension of bus service on Monday has been for thesecond consecutive week on Monday. Last week, the cross-LoC bus service couldnot operate on account of Mahashivratri festival.

The cross-LoC bus service which runs 170 km between Srinagarand Muzaffarabad was officially launched on April 7, 2005. The bus serviceprovides an opportunity to the people of divided parts of Kashmir to visit eachother.
