Dy CM for speedy execution of new hydro power projects

Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh today directed the officers for ensuring speedy execution of various hydro power projects in the state so that the power generation capacity here gets enhanced.

The Deputy CM was speaking at the 6th meeting of Management and Finance Sub Committee of Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited (JKSPDC), according to an official spokesperson.

   

Minister of State for Power Asiea Naqash besides Principal Secretary Finance Navin Choudhary, Commissioner Secretary PDD, Hridesh Kumar, Managing Director JKSPDC Shah Faesal and other senior officers were also present in the meeting.

Deputy Chief Minister, while directing the officers to ensure that the pace of works on the ongoing power projects is speeded up at all levels, said that it will go a long way in ensuring self sufficiency of the State in power generation besides ensuring proper augmentation of electric supply so that the state does not face any lean periods and face power shortages.

Singh said that the state is bestowed with enormous natural resources for power generation and we have to ensure that they are used to the optimum so that our state comes up as one of the leading states in power generation so that the surplus can be exported which would also give a fillip to our economy.

Deputy Chief Minister, while referring to Prime Ministers package, said that a special component has already been earmarked for new power projects and now the onus lies on us to ensure that the funds are utilized in full by undertaking new ventures, which besides generating power would also ensure that employment generation of the areas in which they are being implemented gets a boost.

The meeting also discussed the issue of expediting hydro power projects in the state besides deliberating upon various measures for further streamlining of functioning of the department.
