An extraordinary General Body Meeting of Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) was held at FCIK House Sanat Nagar in which the Federation constituted new election commission and took various decisions regarding its functioning.

A statement issued by the Interim Secretary Nasir Bukhari said that the meeting was chaired by senior member Syed Nazim-u-Din and attended by more than 175 members from across Kashmir.

The agenda notified earlier was discussed in the meeting and resolution including confirming of the tenure of existing administrative council was passed.

"The tenure of existing administrative council already extended in the extra ordinary executive council  meeting of 1/8/2015 was confirmed and further extended till completion of the elections. Besides the deficiency in the administrative c council was filled by the interim appointment of G M Tramboo as senior vice-president and Nasir Bukhari as secretary general," the statement said.

The statement said "Shakeel Qalander who was appointed election commissioner in the AGM of April 2015 is yet to complete the elections when only five months of the term are left. The failure of the election commission was viewed very seriously and after prolonged discussion a consensus was arrived at that Qalander be relieved from the post of Chief election commissioner and a new election commission comprising five members, Syed Mumtaz Geelani, Manzoor A Qadri

(Rangreth) , Muhammad Shaban Lone (Sopore),  Sheikh Nissar Ahmad (Lassipora) and Showket Hussain  (Shallateng)  was formed.

The statement added that new election commission was given one months' time to conclude the election to all the left out lines and association that were the part of ex-executive council and any other line that qualifies as per the constitution.

The election of 42 EC members was upheld but the council being incomplete as yet it was resolved that council members cannot take any action till all the members to the council are elected. Besides the election of any line representative or association whose election is contested will be reviewed in light of the constitution.

"The election notification of 12/12/2016 issued by erstwhile election commission of Syed Shakeel Qalander to elect Administrative Council amongst the 42 EC members was also declared as withdrawn and rejected. The election to the administrative council will be held by the new election commission after the election for all the constituencies are completed and full executive council is in place." The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by President  Muhammad Ashraf Mir.
