Government may advertise J&K tourism in upcoming IPL 2019 matches

In a move to attract visitors back to Kashmir, J&K tourism department is mulling to advertise state's tourism destinations during the telecast of upcoming IPL 2019 from various sports channels.

According to an official spokesperson, Advisor to GovernorKhurshid Ahmed Ganai on Wednesday directed the tourism department to submit aproposal for showing small duration advertisements on the state tourismdestinations and potentials on the sports channels during IPL 2019 matches. Hewas chairing a meeting of the department to review the functioning of tourism departmentand its preparedness for the upcoming tourist season.

The meeting, according to an official spokesperson, wasattended by commissioner secretary, tourism department, managing director,J&K Tourism Development Corporation, director tourism, Kashmir, directortourism, Jammu, and various officers of related corporations and authorities.

The advisor enquired about preparations for the launch ofpublicity campaign by the tourism department to attract tourists to the state.He stressed on optimal utilisation of numerous formats of publicity in printand electronic media to highlight and promote major tourist spots of all thethree divisions of the state.

The advisor was apprised that the department is working onvarious proposals related to publicity and marketing of J&K's uniquetourism products.

It was further informed that the tourism directorate Jammuhas issued a comprehensive calendar for tourism activities for the calendaryear 2019.

Director tourism Kashmir, informed on the occasion that for publicity and promotion of prominent tourist places of the state, the LED slides/lights have been installed at Delhi and Mumbai Airports, while road shows are being conducted in metropolitan cities across the country and abroad including Malaysia, Thailand and Bangladesh.

Rates fixed for the tourism related activities like Pony, Shikara, Sledge, Skiing, rafting etc. for current year have been notified, the meeting further informed.

He was informed that besides planning various touristattraction programmes, the department is working on the publicity strategies toreach out to the tourists across the globe.

The advisor also asked tourism department for constructionof bio-friendly toilets at the major tourism destinations and on highways. Theadvisor also directed for better maintenance and up-keeping of golf courses ofthe state.

The advisor further directed to allot budgetary support tothe assistant director tourism of Ladakh Division for promotion and publicityoutside the preview of Tourism Development Authorities and keep the same at thedisposal of concerned assistant directors.
