Horticulture Department Friday organised a day-long awareness-cum-training camp at Shadab Karewa in district Shopian.
Scores of farmers participated and put-forth problems facedby them regarding horticulture which were addressed on the spot.
The camp was organized by the Director Horticulture,Kashmir, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, which was also attended by the Deputy Commissioner(DC), Shopian, Owais Ahmad.
All the head of the departments of Shopian district andorchardists were also present on the occasion. The programme was organised forinformation dissemination among orchardists under centrally sponsored schemeMission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH).
Director Horticulture explained the developmental schemesimplemented by Horticulture Department and also the described the incentivesbeing provided to the orchardists under these schemes. The DirectorHorticulture assured that Horticulture Department will try its best to meet thedemands of orchardists of the District.
DC while interacting with the fruit growers advised them totake maximum benefit by availing incentives available under various centrallysponsored and state sector schemes presently under implementation in thedivision.
Director Horticulture disclosed that the department is goingto start skill development programme in the temperate areas with an objectiveto train the local unemployed youth in various propagation techniques likebudding, grafting and canopy management techniques like pruning/training offruit trees, so that they can act as master trainers and can train other localyouth in the same.
