Jewellers in Jammu shall resume their business from Friday. This was today decided at a meeting of Jewellers' Association with Chamber of Commerce & Industry Jammu.
The meeting held at chamber house Jammu discussed the "genuine problems" being faced by the jewellers due to "pressure from various quarters forcing them to sell gold against illegal currency after the demonetization announced by Prime Minister on November 8, 2016," a chamber handout said.
"The chamber requested them to open their establishments from Nov 18 because people from a cross-section of society had approached the chamber complaining that they were facing problems as they could not purchase the gold in the ongoing marriage season," the statement said.
On the pursuance of the chamber, the jewellers agreed to open their shops from tomorrow and decided to sell the gold items against new currency notes/Credit and Debit cards and cheques. GKNN
