JK among highest rice consuming states: NSSO

The consumption of rice in Jammu and Kashmir is 8.130 kg and wheat 3.387 kg per person per month. For urban area it is 7.604 kg rice and 3.289 kg wheat, a survey by NSSO has revealed.

The consumption of rice in Jammu and Kashmir is 8.130 kg and wheat 3.387 kg per person per month. For urban area it is 7.604 kg rice and 3.289 kg wheat, a survey by NSSO has revealed.

Director NSSO (FOD) Srinagar, Altaf Hussain Haji in a statement said, the results of the survey have shown that the rural area at all India level is consuming  5.976  kilogram of rice  and  4.288  kg wheat  per person  per month and for urban area at all India level is consuming 4.487  kilogram rice and  4.011  kg wheat  per person  per month respectively.

The overall consumption of rice and wheat in Jammu and Kashmir has increased as compared to previous round of consumer surveys of NSSO, it said.

Further, Jammu and Kashmir is one of the states of India where rice is consumed very high, it said.

The survey was conducted by National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Field Operations Division, Ministry of Statistics and  Progamme  Implantation, Government of India for the period of one year for entire Jammu and Kashmir.
