To assess the functioning of the Nigeen Club, the commissioner secretary tourism Rigzin Samphel held a meeting with the members of the Nigeen Club Coordination Committee members at the club premises.
According to a statement issued by the coordination committee, the secretary was apprised of the deteriorating condition of the club in general and the “menace” of marriage ceremonies in particular that are taking place in the club.
These ceremonies have turned this heritage club into a marriage hall, deteriorating its condition and proving an environmental for the famous Nigeen Lake and its surroundings.
According the statement, “The commissioner secretary was pleased to issue on spot instructions to the management of the club for protecting the pristine glory of this club by way of putting a stop to the activities which are detrimental to the health of the club and environment attached to it.”
Appreciating the efforts of the coordination committee in identifying the issues pertaining to the club, the commissioner secretary assured them about activating the managing body of the club and also enhancement of the funds to make the functioning of the club effective that will include upgradation of the club infrastructure.
