Shopping malls in Ganderbal lack car parking, washrooms

Ganderbal town is witnessing a construction boom with new shopping malls and building complexes coming up unabatedly after it was given district status in 2007.

However, most of these shopping malls and complexes in thetown do not follow the set guidelines and lack basic required facilities likecar parking spaces and washrooms.

   

As per the guidelines, theconstruction of such shopping malls or complexes is only permitted after anundertaking that they will provide all required facilities. However in the townmost of them lack these facilities and are have been constructed haphazardlyputting a question mark over the role of Municipal Committee Ganderbal anddistrict administration.

The people visiting these shopping malls conplain ofinconvenience caused due to non availability of the car parking and washroomfacilities.

People visiting such commercial complexes or shopping mallsare forced to park their vehicles on the roadside leading to traffic congestionand inconvenience to the general public.

“The MCG is under statutory obligation to initiate actionagainst these shopping mall owners and ask them to provide all requiredfacilities to the customers and visitors” Muhammad Rafiq, a resident ofthe town said.

Chairman Municipal Committee GanderbalAltaf Ahmed admittedthat all shopping complexes do not have required facilities.

“The committee will ensure now onwards that any such newbuildings will be permitted only after completing all formalities and have allthe required facilities,” he said.
