Skill training on clonal rootstock begins at SKUAST-K

Srinagar, Dec 14: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir inaugurated a week-long entrepreneurship skill development training programme titled ‘Establishment of Clonal Rootstock and its Multiplication’ at the Wadura campus.

A statement said that the skill training is organised by SKUAST-K’s Faculty of Agriculture under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). This training programme aims to equip the participants with essential skills and knowledge in establishing clonal rootstock banks and their multiplication.

   

Head, Division of Plant Pathology, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof Ali Anwar, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function, emphasized the invaluable exposure of the training program offered to youth, students, and farmers, broadening their understanding of the role of clonal rootstock in fruit production and empowering them to adopt fruit nursery business career as entrepreneurship.

Head, Division of Horticulture, FoA, Dr Khalid Rasool, highlighted the pressing need for skill-based entrepreneurial training in the current scenario. Course Coordinator, Dr Angrej Ali, emphasized the significance of clonal rootstocks in quality planting material production for establishing orchards, especially high-density orchards in Kashmir valley. Professor, Fruit Science, Division of Horticulture, Dr Ghulam Irshad Hassan, presented the vote of thanks.
