Steps afoot to increase tourist footfall in JK: Sharma

Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, K K Sharma today reiterated that a string of measures have been taken to boost tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Advisor was speaking to a group of tourism sector stakeholdershere at the Civil Secretariat.

   

Listing the tourism promotion activities being carried out indifferent parts of the country and globally, he said that travel marts arebeing held which will help in increasing tourist arrivals here.

“We have also roped in major tourism players in other parts of thecountry to facilitate the tourists craving to enjoy the captivating naturalbeauty of Jammu and Kashmir” he added.

Terming the tourism sector as mainstay of JK’seconomy, Advisor Sharma said that our focus is on promotion of potentialtourist spots on sustainable basis. He said that the promotional activitieswill be further intensified across the country so that tourism here gets therequisite boost.

While elaborating the importance of religioustourism, the Advisor said that J&K is replete with several historicalshrines and places of religious importance and the need of the hour is toeffectively promote these nationally and globally.

Hesaid that sustained campaign would contribute tremendously in boostingpilgrimage tourism which would in turn create jobs by accelerating the economicand trade related activities in these particular areas.
