Taxes deptt seizes goods worth Rs 1 cr at Jammu railway station

The state taxes department seized goods worth Rs 1 crore from railway station Jammu being shipped to the state from Delhi through railway bogies without proper documents.

“More than 300 nags of various commodities were seized and are being put to scrutiny. The action has been initiated by the state taxes department as a sequel to the launch of a full-fledged inquiry into the trans-shipment of taxable commodities illegally through railway bogies in contravention to the GST Rules,” an official spokesperson said.

   

The department has also issued notice to various railway bogie leaseholders asking them to furnish the information.

The state tax department has also written to the chief parcel supervisor of Jammu, Udhampur, Katra, Samba, Kathua railway stations to release goods received through railway lease bogies and parcel bookings only after checking GST invoices and e-way bills as required under GST rules.

The department has intensified the vigilance mechanism to ensure that no evasion of Goods and Services Tax takes place on any account.
