US Expert visits SKUAST-K to promote awareness of food security

Srinagar, Mar 9: Prof.Ramasamy Perumal, a renowned sorghum breeder from Kansas State University and Honorary Adjunct Professor at SKUAST-Kashmir, paid a visit to the agricultural university from March 6-9.

During his stay, he visited the Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-K and delivered a talk on US agriculture, global efforts to promote millets and the research programmes on rainfed agriculture.

   

After the research presentation, Professor Perumal had a comprehensive interaction with students regarding opportunities for higher education and research in the USA. He emphasised that building matching skill sets in research, communication and the ability to work in diverse multicultural environments is key to securing opportunities at master, PhD and postdoctoral levels in the US.

He also apprised students about the various procedures for securing admission and GRA for pursuing higher research degrees from US universities.

Dr Perumal also interacted with the faculty members to explore areas of mutual interest. Prof Perumal had also a meeting with Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Prof Rihana Kanth and Dr Parvaze A. Sofi, coordinator of International Programmes regarding student mobility under sandwich programmes for PhD students with a research advisory committee from Kansas State University.
