Vet, fisheries students of SKUAST-K demand separate animal sciences university

Students of Veterinary and Fisheries Sciences Faculties of SKUAST-K on Tuesday held aa sit in protest outside the Shuhama campus demanding a separate animal sciences university. 

The protesting students said that there is a dire need of having a separate veterinary university in the state as it will uplift the sector. demanding a separate veterinary university in the J&K state. For now both faculties come under SKUAST-K. The students urged the government to set up a veterinary and animal sciences university in Kashmir and expand animal and fisheries departments.

   

The students urged the government to set up the proposed veterinary and animal sciences university for which they said “the infrastructure already exists at the Shuhama and elsewhere.” “There is an urgent need for the veterinary university”as the state is lagging behind in the area of livestock production which needs to be boosted through research and HRD,” said the president students union of faculty of veterinary sciences, Aamir Ahmed Bhat. 

He further said that the protest was also held against the statement from Joint Scientist Teachers’ Forum of SKUAST Kashmir and Jammu who have opposed government’s proposed move to establish new universities for veterinary sciences/fisheries in the state.

The protesting students urged the Governor and the Principal Secretary of Animal Husbandry Department to look into the demands so that the proposed veterinary university in the state is established.
