The construction work on the much-awaited Z-Morh tunnel near Gagengar area of Sonamarg in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district has been halted due to the prevailing unrest in Kashmir.
Sources said the work on the 6.5 Km long tunnel on Srinagar-Leh highway near Gagengar (Sonamarg), which had started early this year, has been stopped for over a month now. "This will further delay the vital project," they said.
Sources said the work was stopped following the unrest in Kashmir triggered by the killing of HM Commander Burhan Wani.
They said that most of the employees working with the executing agency have either left the Valley for home or are unable to carry out the work under prevailing circumstances.
Meanwhile, a senior official said the work was stopped as the "construction company was facing shortage of material and other required things."
However, he said the matter has been taken up with the concerned officials of the company and the work will resume within few days.
