The authorities here have failed to check dumping of debris along the Jammu –Srinagar highway in violation of many standing orders of local administration and the court.

The menace of dumping of debris including rubble and garbage has added to the problems of the narrow and landslide prone road stretch passing through the district.

Despite necessary guidelines issued time and again by the District Magistrate Ramban to check dumping, the concerned officials have ignored the violation as the mounds of ruble dot the road all along the urban areas.

"The violations are going on under the nose of concerned law enforcing agencies but they are watching these violations as mute spectator" said Mohammad Saleem, a local.

Showkat Ahmed, another resident of the hilly district said all the guidelines issued by the District Magistrate have remained   confined to papers only as the enforcing agencies have been watching the violations like lame ducks.

Showkat said passerby usually complaint about the stinky stretches in the town where garbage and other households wastes have been dumped but the Ramban Municipality has no plan for the treatment of these wastes.

"NGOs and political parties have lodged their protests several times outside the Deputy Commissioner's office Ramban but the concerned officials are reluctant to do the needful", he added.
