Commuters and transporter here have expressed dismay over turning of the general bus stand here into a market for roadside vendors, saying rampant encroachment by rehriwalas hs become a nuisance.
On visiting the bus stand, one finds it presenting a 'Sunday Market' with most of the space occupied by the vendors and rehriwallas.
The bus stand located close to the Jammu-Srinagar highway was constructed by the urban local bodies department for parking and accommodating passenger vehicles plying between Jammu and other neighbouring districts of the state.
However, locals lament that that the bus stand has virtually been turned into a market where vendors and rehriwallas have established their businesses.
"It seems it is free for all and you can occupy any space where you like by greasing the palms of municipality and police officials", said a shopkeepers in the vicinity of the bus stand.
"Not only this, the operators of Magic Autos and TaTa Sumos have also contributed to the mess by parking their vehicles in a haphazard manner", said a commuter, adding, "The basic purpose of the bus stand is not being served at all as it has become a market for starting small time businesses".
Locals alleged that municipal authorities, police and the district administration are acting as mute spectators to the problem.
We hope the District Development Commissioner intervenes into the matter and gets us rid of this mess, said another commuter.
