A leopard strayed into a village in Kishtwar area of Jammu and Kashmir and killed 12 sheep, officials said on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when a leopard attacked a herd of sheep and killed 12 of them in Durbeel village of Tehsil Chatroo in district Kishtwar, they said.

The sheep belonged to Prem Nath, son of Mangat Ram, resident of Drubeel.

The villagers alleged that the wildlife Department authorities were being negligent despite being informed at several occasions about the presence of leopards in the area.

In a similar incident, more than a dozen sheep were killed in a leopard attack at village Rajpura in Gandoh tehsil of Doda district couple of days ago.
