Authorities clamped down on mobile internet services across Chenab Valley region to prevent spreading of rumours which could have resulted in further deterioration of the situation.
All schools and colleges remained closed as a preventive measure while roads witnessed thin transport and movement of people. Meanwhile, reports said mobile Internet services were cut off in Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban following protest demonstrations by the Sanathan Dharam Sabha and BJYM. The protesters carried out a peaceful demonstration in the main market Kishtwar and visited all schools and colleges of the town and peripheral areas asking the authorities to close the institutions.
Officials said mobile Internet services were disrupted indefinitely to stop the spread of rumours on social networking sites. However broadband, baseband landline and Reliance Jio 4G services were not disrupted.
The situation remained normal across the Chenab Valley region while no incidents of violence were reported from anywhere, a police official said.
