The people of Chenab Valley have expressed strong resentment against indiscriminate digging of highway by telecom companies for laying the optical fiber and failure of the PWD department to restore the road.
They claim that the on-going digging work has turned the highway between Kishtwar and Batote risky and created problems for the daily commuters. "The R&B department has failed to take up repair works thus putting the life of the commuters to risk".
Local residents of Kishtwar said that the authorities have given permission to several telecom companies to dig up the road for laying underground cables but no attention was being paid for its early restoration.
"The people of twin districts of Kishtwar and Doda are already suffering due to the dilapidated condition of the national highway and the ongoing work of cable laying has made the things from bad to worse" they lamented.
"We are not against the improvement of Tele communication services but it should not be done at the cost of national highway which is the lifeline of our districts" locals said. They expressed surprise over the laidback approach of the PWD and National Highway Authority of India for leaving the dug up portion of the road unattended.
The locals have appealed to the concerned department to look into the matter at the earliest and direct the networking companies to restore and blacktop the dug up road at the earliest.
