Chenab Valley Workers Union (CVWU) has demanded enhancement in the MGNREGA wages.
The demand was raised at a function organized by the union to mark the May Day, here today.
The function in which scores of daily wage laborourers from across district Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban participated was organised under the leadership of Farid Ahmed Sheikh at CVWU's head office in Bus Stand Pasri Bhaderwah.
The speakers alleged that the corrupt officers have a nexus with contractors, who swindle the government money by indulging in fake withdrawal of bills against non-existing MGNREGA workers.
"The poor laborers are being subjected to human rights and labor laws violations by both government and private sectors" they alleged further and pledged to educate the laborers and daily wage workers 'who have been toiling in the most difficult circumstances since decades, about their rights'.
"CVWU will keep on fighting for the rights of labor community and make sure that none of them is cheated or exploited by any government or private agency," said Publicity Secretary, Tariq Hussain.
"Our brothers are working in most pitiable conditions in absence of any basic amenities at different bus stands, our demand from the government is they should immediately construct resting sheds and toilets at Seri Bazaar and Pasri Bus Stand," Tariq added' He also demanded enhancement of MNREGA workersd from the existing Rs 173 a day to Rs 300.
