Mismanagement and staff shortage has failed the Trauma Hospital established in 2002 to cater to the road accident victims in accident prone area of Ramban district.
Sources said owing to the shortage of technical staff the hospital has failed to serve the purpose despite having expensive and costly machinery.
The Hospital was sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway Authority of India in 2002 and the work on the huge hospital building was completed in subsequent years with provision of state-of-art diagnostic facilities, including citi-scan.
"The costly machinery installed in the Hospital building is gathering dust as not a single technical hand has been posted to handle the equipment since the commissioning of the hospital" sources within the department said.
They said most of the injured accident victims are being referred to Srinagar or Jammu from District Hospital Ramban.
Sources added that a highly sophisticated critical care ambulance provided by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Government of India eight years back for ferrying injured patients and accident victims is rusting in courtyard of the Hospital.
"The subsequent governments have failed to make this so called trauma hospital fully functional despite the fact that the stretch of Jammu Srinagar Highway, passing through this hilly district, is highly accident prone," said a local leader.
