Three girl students rescued, one feared drowned in Bhadarwah flash floods

A young college student is feared to have drowned after slipping from a narrow foot bridge over Neeru river near Butla village of Bhaderwah while three other students were rescued after flash floods hit the area on Friday morning.

A young college student is feared to have drowned after slipping from a narrow foot bridge over Neeru river near Butla village of Bhaderwah while three other students were rescued after flash floods hit the area on Friday morning.

The students were heading towards their college today morning when they slipped from a wooden log while crossing the flooded Neeru river.

Executive Magistrate Bhadarwah Masood Ahmad said that the girls fell into the river after slipping from the log.

He said a rescue operation was launched immediately to rescue the girls.

"Three girls were rescued and shifted to Sub-District Hospital Bhadarwah. However, one girl who was suffering from polio was washed away by the strong currents," he said.

"We have constituted five teams, which are on job and are searching to retrieve the body from Butla to Fish pond Gatha."

The drowned girl was identified as  Sheetal Bharti  D/O Satish Kumar R/O Trown Doda, a student of class 12th.

Those rescued were identified as Shakti Bharti D/O Satish kumar student of part one, Anam (3rd year) D/O Ashiq Hussain R/O Buttla and Sharika Daughter of Om Prakash R/O Gagraota.

Following the accident, locals staged a protest against the administration.

"We have been demanding construction of bridge over Neeru near Butla since long to prevent such an accident," said a protester.
