Traffic movement remained suspended for two hours on the strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway on Thursday after a trucker staged a protest against the cops of Jammu and Kashmir Traffic police for alleged thrashing.

Sources said that a trucker Sonu Kumar parked his vehicle (bearing registration number HR56 A 051) on the highway near Banihal after he was allegedly thrashed by the policemen, blocking the movement of traffic.

They said that Kumar was stopped by the policemen at a check-post as he was travelling from Kashmir towards Jammu around noon.

Kumar said that he was beaten up after he confronted the policemen for charging him extra money.

"They took away my registration documents and Rs 14000," alleged Kumar.

To protest against the alleged police action, Kumar blocked the movement of traffic by parking his truck on the highway.

Later, police officials arrived at the spot and restored the movement of traffic.
