Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have arrested six alleged bovine smugglers and rescued 28 animals from their possession, here on Sunday.
A police officer said, "Five bovines were rescued from a Tata Magic Auto, JK19 6569, and eight from another Tata mobile. Both the vehicles were intercepted at a police check-post at Ramban."
Meanwhile, six bovines were recovered from Tata mobile, JK14 8750, on Karool-Kundi link road at Karool, whereas 4 animals were rescued at Tatapani and five at Sumber, the officer said.
The officer identified the accused as Adil Hussain, Sadik, Maneer Wani, Gulzar Ahmed, Ashiq Ali and Hakam Shah.
The accused have been arrested and the vehicles seized, the officer said, adding that separate FIRs have been registered at the police stations of Ramban, Dharamkund and Gool, respectively.
