Man feared dead as vehicle rolls plunges into Chenab river

A man is being feared dead after a vehicle he was travellingin rolled down the Jammu-Srinagar highway and plunged into Chenab river, hereon Tuesday.

A police officer said, "A Truck, JK04A 7154, loaded withliquor was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu. Upon reaching Jaswal bridge,Karool, the truck skidded off the road and rolled into Chenab river."

The driver of the truck, identified as Sanjeev Kumar ofSolan in Himachal Pradesh, is missing, the officer said, adding that a rescueoperation has been launched to trace out the man.

"Even army drones have been pressed into service to traceout the missing driver from the river," he said.

Meanwhile, in another accident on the Jammu-Srinagarhighway, a dumper, JK19 1326, roll down into a gorge at Rattanbass. "Thedriver, identified as Parvez Ahmed Padhar of Chandoos, Neel, sustained injuriesin the accident. He was shifted to sub-district hospital, Banihal, from wherehe was referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment," a police officer said.

Earlier, the residents of Banihal town and attendants of theinjured driver held a demonstration and blocked the highway in the town for abrief period. "The doctors and paramedical staff posted at the sub-districthospital, Banihal, did not prioritize the injured driver," they alleged.

Later, the protesters were pacified by the station houseofficer, Banihal, who assured them that treatment to the injured will beprovided on priority.
