Anjole village in Thakrai block of Kishtwar districtcontinues reeling under darkness since the past one month as the powerdevelopment department has failed to supply electricity in the village.
Pertinently, the power supply had developed snags after heavysnowfall hit the district.
The locals said that they have been suffering immensely inthe absence of electricity and the harsh winters have added to their woes. "Assoon as the sun sets, oil lamps and candles are what keep our housesilluminated," they said.
"Our children are also suffering. We are unable to chargeour mobile phones," Arjun Sharma, another resident, said.
The locals claimed to have brought the issue into the noticeof the concerned department time and again, but nothing has been done. "We havebeen making repeated pleas to the officials to repair the electric supply inorder to mitigate our sufferings, but they do not seem to be bothered," DeepakSharma Altaf, a resident of Anjole, said.
On being contacted, executive engineer, power development department, Kishtwar, Roshan Lal, confirmed that the electricity is lying snapped and would be restored in a couple of days. "Only a few wards of the village are being supplied electricity right now, while in the rest of the areas, restoration is being conducted on war footing," he said.
