4 killed, 9 injured in Doda road mishap

Four persons were killed and 9 others injured— 7 of them critically—  when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge at Ganga Soti area of Gandoh in district Doda on Saturday.

According to sources, a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK06-4986, which was on its way from Changa to Khaljugsaar on Gandoh-Khaljugassar road, had 12 passengers on board.

   

“On reaching GangalSoti area, the driver reportedly lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve, sending the vehicle 200 feet down into the gorge.”

When contacted, ASP BhadarwahRajinder Singh said that as soon they came to know about the accident, a police party rushed to the spot and along with locals started rescue operation. “All the 13 persons on board (including the driver) were brought to the road before shifting them to the PHC Changa, where doctors declared 4 of them as brought dead,” ASP said.

He said the seven seriously injured passengers were shifted to district hospital Doda. 

The deceased have been identified as Usha Devi (30) W/o SukhDev R/o SarooKhalJugassar, Mubarak Hussain (16) S/o Shah Din R/o Alni, Sapna Devi (22) W/o ChamanLal R/o SairuKhalJugassar and Povitra Devi (30) D/o Amar Chand R/o  KalJugassar. 

The injured have been identified as AshiqHussain (29) S/o Ali Mohammad R/o Kota Khrangal, Munisha Devi (28) W/o VinodKymar R/o Bhatoli, Sher Mohammad (38) S/o Mahmadoo Mir R/o Soti, Om Devi (50) W/o Amar Chad R/o Jugassar, Swarn Singh (26) S/o Tek Chand R/o SeruKhalJugassar, Manmohan Singh (30) S/o Om Singh R/o KhalJugassar, Amar Singh (55) S/o Jagat Ram R/o Jugassar, Geeta Devi R/o LajooKhalJugassar and Tariq Hussain (29) S/o Shah Mohammad R/o Kakoo. 

Later, five of the injured persons were shifted to GMC Jammu for further treatment.
