7 houses buried under landslide in Doda

As many as seven houses were buried under the debris of a landslide, and five others damaged due to shooting stones, in the remote Dugan Bathri area of Doda district on Monday morning, officials said.

There were no casualties as the residents of the area, whichis 60km from Doda town, had been evacuated to safer places.

   

 Bhaderwahsuperintendent of police Raj Singh Gouria said seven of the houses werecompletely buried under the debris and five suffered damages due to shootingstones.

“Our team and the local residents have started rescueoperation,” the SP added.

He said the people living in these houses had already beenshifted to safer places after a landslide on March 13 damaged about dozen shopsin Bathri.

The Chenab region is one of the most disaster-prone areas ofJammu and Kashmir. Every year, dozens of landslides are reported from the area,which is located in the high-risk Seismic Zone 5 that is vulnerable toearthquakes and frequent floods.
