A 72-year-old woman died after a wall of her house collapsed in snow-bound Tatora-Gajoth village, 25 km from Bhaderwah, in Doda district on Monday.
A police official said that Seetu Devi came under the debris of the house after it collapsed around 3:20 am.
Station house officer, Bhaderwah, Munir Khan, said Devi, who was sleeping at the time of the incident, died on the spot.
“The house, made of mud and stone with a wooden ceiling, had become weak and repeated spells of heavy snowfall led to its collapse,” he said, adding that SOG Gajoth and the police party from Bhalla post started a rescue operation and retrieved the body of the elderly woman from the debris.
