Baisakhi celebrated in Kishtwar
Baisakhi the spring festival, was celebrated in Kishtwar today with gaiety and enthusiasm.
The festival marks the beginning of the spring. It is also called as the harvest festival elsewhere in India.
Locals said the people belonging to Sikh community thronged Gurduvara in Kishtwar throughout the day.
Eyewitnesses said the Mela was organized on the bank of Chenab River. Many stalls were set up by the locals.
Many people especially from Hindu and Sikh communities too dip into Chenab river near Bandarkoot Kishtwar, a culture attached to Baisakhi celebration.
The largest gathering was witnessed at Gurduvara at Kishtwar town. Historical Parade ground wore a festive look, with huge rush of visitors whereas the ' Danghal' wrestling programme was also organised in Parade ground Kishtwar.
Reports said that Muslims congratulated the Sikh and Hindu brethren on the festival.
Meanwhile, sources said that MLA and MOS Sunil Sharma along with District Commissioner Kishtwar, Ghulami Nabi Balwan, SSP Kishtwar Sandeep Wazir and other officials also visited to Bandarkoot to review the arrangements in connection with Baisakhi Mela and security arrangements.
