On the call for bandh given out by Anjuman-e-Islamia, the locals kept their shops and business establishments shut to observe the death anniversary of Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru and to reiterate the family's demand for their mortal remains, in support of the 3 day bandh call given out by Hurriyat Conference.
President Anjuman-e-islamia Bhadarwah Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh said, "We also observed today as a solidarity day with the people of Kashmir and warned the government to stop testing our patience." He added that the government should immediately handover the mortal remains of Bhat and Guru to their family members, so that their last rites could be offered.
Elaborate security arrangements were made in Bhadarwah town and the day went peacefully and no untoward incident was reported.
"The Jawans and Officers have been advised to practice maximum restraint, but we have deployed extra columns of Police, JKAP and CRPF at all the sensitive places to deal with any ugly situation," said a senior police officer.
