CASOs return to Chenab Valley after a decade

Cordon and Search Operations have returned the Chenab Valley after about a decade.

Sources said during past two days, the government forces laid siege to several areas in this district after receiving inputs about the presence of at least three militants.

A resident of Kishtwar told news agency CNS a cordon a search operation was launched in different areas in the district including Semna, Shaheedi Gali, Malik Mohalla and adjacent localities. “The government forces besides subjecting people to frisking, conducted house to house searches,” he said.

“Last time these localities witnessed such operations was in 2005,” he recalled.

Pertinently, police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a Hizb “sympathizer” Towseef Ahmed Gandoo who according to them was “trying to revive the militancy in the Chenab Valley.” The police claim was refuted by the family of Gandoo.

Touseef is the son of Hurriyat (G) leader from Kishtwar Ghulam Nabi Gandoo. Gandoo is a close confidant of Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Geelani.
