Inhabitants of Kishtwar and Doda today said that they were reeling under acute power crisis while the power development department was ignoring their plight.

They said the people in the Chenab valley are subjected to unscheduled and long power cuts ranging from eight and 10 hours on a regular basis.

"Due to overloading, PDD officials go in for unscheduled and prolonged power cuts for hours together," the residents complained.

The residents said that even though a hefty amount of electricity was generated in the region, "but the locals in the region are suffering for want of electricity."

They said the locals have given out their land for the construction of the power projects. "But when it comes to giving power to them, the department and other agencies are playing indifferent."

The residents said because of the shortage of the power, their children and elderly have become worst sufferers.

They appealed the authorities to look into the issue and ensure that the region gets adequate power supply.
