Banihal town on Srinagar-Jammu highway would remain closed for next four days to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir in the backdrop of continuous civilian killings.

The decision to observe shutdown for four days was taken by Beopar Mandal Banihal and Imam of central Jamia Masjid Banihal. "Beopar Mandal Banihal and Imam of Jama Masjid Banihal have also decided to follow the hartal calendar issued by joint resistance leadership, comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik" sources said.

They have appealed traders, shopkeepers and transporters to make the call given by valley based separatist leaders successful. "We cannot isolate ourselves from the pain and agony which our community in valley is passing and going through. We will follow the calendar issued from there in letter and spirit as we are also part and parcel of the movement" the .

Meanwhile, on the first day of the strike call, all business establishments and shops remained closed across the town and adjoining areas. The markets presented a deserted look even as movement of vehicles and people remained on the lower side.

However, no incidents of stone pelting or violent demonstrations were reported from the area till filing of this report.
