A police officer of Indian Reserve Police and a civilian lost their lives after a tree fell on a moving passenger cab at Magarkote area, which falls under Ramsoo Police Station, on Monday, police said. Some other passengers were also injured in the accident.
Police said a Tavera passenger Taxi (JK03-0592) which was on way to Jammu on Monday morning came under a tree, resulting in death of two passengers.
Police identified the deceased as Assistant Sub Inspector of IRP, Kuldeep Kumar son of Nanak Chand of Kathua and Gulzar Dar son of Gulam Nabi of Mattan Anantnag.
Other passengers were identified as Muhammad Suleman, Mumtaz Ali Aftab of Jharkhand and Nissar Mir son of Abdus Salam of Douru Anantnag. They were referred to District Hospital Ramban after being provided with medical aid at PHC Ramsoo.
"The accident occurred when a contractor company engaged by the Highway Authority of India had put on job some persons for felling trees alongside the highway without any safety measures and precautions," a police official said.
A case vide FIR No 90 of 2016 under section 336/337/304A have been lodged at police station Ramsoo.
