District Road Safety Committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Muhammad Aijaz j here on Saturday, an official spokesman said.

He said  the meeting identified multiple vulnerable points on NHW from Patnitop to Banihal which are essentially stressed upon. Apart from this meeting stressed on  keeping one ambulance stationary round the clock at Ramsoo, displaying of fare list at taxi stands and raising toilets on NH1A.

The meeting was attended by ACR, Vevaik Puri, CPO, Parshotam Kumar,  ASP, Mushtaq Choudhary, CMO,  Xen PWD, ARTO,  Dy. CEO, Dy. SP Traffic Police, General Manager Nvayuga P. Satyanarayana, Project Manager AFCON, DK Rai, GM Gammon and   various other representative of  construction companies. After being apprised about ongoing maintenance works on NHW, the District Magistrate directed the companies to submit emergency evacuation plans of working sites and labourers safety measures, rehabilitation of displaced plans instituted under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). He instructed their representatives to follow the terms and conditions of contract agreement in letter and spirit.  

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate also stressed on engineers of PMGSY and PWD for making concerted efforts in repairing all existing road networks in the rural areas.  He said that stringent measures shall be initiated for poor performance.

The District Magistrate directed the construction companies to set up crash barriers and sign boards at critical points like Nashri, Kunfer Bridge, Digdole, Khooni Nallah, Anookhi Fall, Ramsoo, Digdol, Shitan Nallah, Sher bibi, Battry Chashma and Hingni. Besides, ARTO was asked to identify all other critical locations including the blind curves on NHW within weeks time.

It was decided in the meeting that the construction companies shall construct toilets on National Highway as per the requirement. Four hospitals shall be strengthened under CSR and in this regard, District Magistrate instructed the CMO to make an action plan for proposing equipments of immense importance.

The District Magistrate passed instruction to the police officers to ensure smooth plying of vehicles especially the trucks engaged for transporting essential commodities like LPG, Oil and food grains to Kashmir valley and Ladakh region including fruit trucks from valley to other parts. In this regard, he directed the police and traffic authorities for ensuring smooth plying of such heavy vehicles on NHW. Likewise, the companies have to keep their men and machinery ready in order to deal any emergency.  

Various public places and schools were also fixed for sensitising local people and students with traffic rules and road safety measures. In this regard instructions were passed for organising awareness camps followed by guest lectures by the representatives of education, health, Motor vehicle, Police and social agencies.

Earlier, ARTO Ramban informed about the initiatives taken to curb the menace of over speeding, over charging, wrong parking, drunken driving, under age driving etc on NHW and various link roads. He disclosed that 11 licences of vehicles have been suspended so far in short period.
