Elderly couple injured as vehicle plunges into gorge

An elderly couple was injured after their sports utility vehicle (SUV) skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in Bhaderwah on Monday.

70-year-old Mohan Lal Sharma and his wife 66-year-old Shakuntla Devi were en route their native village, Chinchora in Bhaderwah, from Doda in their SUV, Mahindra Bolero, JK02 AX 9500. Upon reaching Narnoo, 7 km from Bhaderwah town, on the Bhaderwah-Pul Doda highway, the vehicle skidded due to icy road and fell 60 feet downhill on the bank of river Neeru.

   

Assistant superintendent of police, Bhaderwah, Rajinder Singh, said that locals immediately rushed to the spot and shifted the injured couple to sub-district hospital, Bhaderwah, from where, after being administered first-aid, the duo was airlifted to government medical college, Jammu, for specialized treatment.
