A special checking squad today conducted special market inspection here and fined several traders for violating norms, an official spokesman said.
A squad comprising officials of Consumers Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department, Municipal Committee, Police and other agencies conducted market checking in Ramban town to ensure that people get quality edibles and essential commodities on reasonable rates especially during these days of festivity, an official spokesman said.
He said the team checked the rates of fruits, vegetables, milk, chicken, mutton and other eatables besides inspecting the quality of these commodities.
It conducted checking of shops and vendors and seized rotten and subsidized food items, vegetables, fruits and sweets. "An amount of Rs.10100 was recovered from erring traders", the spokesman said, adding that a similar checking was also conducted by the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) during which five challans were compounded and penalty of Rs 4300 was imposed on the erring traders.
