Fresh snowfall in Chenab Valley

The higher reaches of the Chenab region and the Bhadarwah Valley on Sunday received fresh snowfall, even as the plains here have been experiencing moderate to heavy snowfall for the last two days.

The continuous snowfall has brought the mercury down by several notches throwing normal life out of gear in this high altitude area of the state.

Due to continuous snowfall for the last two days in Bhadarwah, authorities suspended vehicular movement on Bhadarwah-Chamba and Bhadarwah-Basholi roads. SP Bhadarwah, Rajinder Singh said, “In view of slippery road conditions and avalanche threat, we have directed the Border Road Organisation (BRO) to not allow any vehicle beyond village Nalthi on Bhadarwah-Basohli road.”

He added: “The R&B authorities have been asked to restrict the vehicular traffic on interstate Bhadarwah-Chamba road from Sartingal onwards due to continuous snowfall since last 2 days.”

There has almost been a breakdown of electricity in majority of the high altitude villages and people are facing drinking water scarcity as well, locals from various areas complained.

The snow was recorded from 1.5 feet to 4 feet in different areas of Bhadarwah valley and Bhalessa in district Doda.

Meanwhile, MET department has predicted improvement in the weather from today evening.
