Fresh snowfall in upper reaches of Chenab Valley

The upper reaches of Chenab region, especially Bhaderwah valley received yet another spell of fresh snowfall while the plains were lashed with torrential rains since early Wednesday morning.

The week-long bright sunny weather had pleasantly increased the temperature after prolonged harsh winters and people had started to see apricot and almond trees blooming with pink and white flowers, but the thunderstorms coupled with icy winds brought the winter chill back. 

   

According to reports, the upper reaches of the entire Chenab region experienced fresh snowfall and heavy rains lashed the plains, dipping the mercury below minus and throwing normal life out of gear.

The entire region was gripped under severe cold conditions after fresh snowfall was recorded at Kailash Kund, Aasha Pati, Chatargala, Padri Gali, Bhal Padri, Kenthi Dhar, Dugga, Shankhoja, Manglala and Gul Danda of Bhaderwah, Kota Top, Sharonth Dhar, Kilru, Dhadkai Top, Mehad, Manokata, Lal Paani, Chanti, Khaljugasar and Kansar of Bhalessa, Braid Bal, Malan, Thana and Gurmal of Doda and Sinthan Top, Syedani, Khat-khai and Koshur bal of Kishtwar. 

People preferred to remain indoors and wear woolen clothes and jackets. They also lit fire places, ‘Bukharies’, to protect themselves and their families. 

However, the MeT has predicted improvement in the weather in the next 24 hours.
