GDC Kishtwar contractual lecturers observe pen-down strike

The contractual lecturers posted at Government Degree College, Kishtwar, observed a pen-down strike Saturday against “pending salaries since the past seven months”.

While talking to Greater Kashmir, the protesting lecturerssaid, “We have been working with honesty and dedication since such a long time,but since the past seven months, our salaries remain pending.”

   

The protesters said, “Most of us are from outside Kishtwarand live here in rented accommodations. It is becoming really hard as thelandlords keep asking for rent and we do not have salaries to pay them.”

They lamented that time and again they approached the higherauthorities, “but nothing has been done yet”.

“Today we decided to showcase our resentment,” theysaid, while threatening to not resume work until their salaries are released.

On being contacted by Greater Kashmir, principal GDC Kishtwar, Prof Pawan Sharma, said, “The college authorities have written to the higher ups for early release of their salaries. The issue has been conveyed and we are hopeful that it will be redressed soon.”
