The Jammu and Kashmir High (HC) Court has directed the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Ramban, not to displace Karool villagers without prior notice and also directed that a reasonable time be given to them for vacating their houses.
The land of the Karool people has been acquired for Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The directions were given by Justice Alok Aradhe of Jammu and Kashmir High Court in response to a Over Writ Petition (OWP) filed on behalf of residents of Karool by advocate Swaran Kishore.
The petitioners had sought directions from the court restraining the official respondents for displacing the villagers without prior notice and without giving them reasonable time for vacating their houses.
They also sought directions from the court to the respondents to frame rehabilitation policy for the villagers whose land has been acquired for Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Karool, Ramban.
After listening the arguments, the judge ordered with a direction respondent number 2, Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, to ensure that the petitioners are given reasonable time for vacating their houses besides serving them with the notice.
