In Ramadhan, Kishtwar areas facing severe water shortage

Despite assurance by the government that water will be supplied regularly during the holy month of Ramdhan, several areas of district Kishtwar, including the main town, have been facing acute shortage of drinking water since the last more than 15 days.

The residents of several affected areas accused the district administration of failing to ensure regular water supply thereby putting the people to lot of inconvenience.

A resident of Hidyal complained that the matter was brought to the notice of concerned authorities and also the concerned Junior Engineer of PHE but nothing has been done to ensure regular water supply.

Areas like Zargar Mohallah, Gudhali Chowk, Ganie Mohallah, Hatasthan, Bandari Mohallah, Dev Mohallah, Tapal Mohallah and Kripyak Mohallah are the worst affected as the water has not been supplied in these areas since the last many days.

The areas like Matta, Sarkoot, Hidyal, Hatta, Sanghrambhata, Pochhal and Kuleed are also affected by water shortage.

Some people said that they have no other option but to buy water from the market. They said that the taps have gone dry and they have no water to meet their daily needs like drinking, bathing, washing utensils and clothes and also for cooking purposes.

“The authorities assured us that they are working to solve the problem but it a month has passed and nothing has been done,” people complained.

The people demanded that till water supply is restored, the PHE department should send water tankers to affected areas so that people could get sufficient water to meet their daily requirements.
