Kishtwar, Feb 10: The residents of Kishtwar district on Sunday claimed to have been suffering due to “administrative inertia” after heavy snowfall hit the district on Thursday.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, scores of residents, while lashing out at the district administration, said, “This is complete mismanagement on part of the administration. The municipal authorities have failed to clear the roads off snow. Besides, non-availability of other basic essentials, like LPG, petrol, kerosene and ration is at a high, making people suffer.”
They claimed that since the last couple of days, they are living without electricity. “Power supply is of utmost importance. Without it, we cannot pump water to the tanks, leading to water scarcity,” they said.
They lamented that nothing has changed in Kishtwar in the past 10 years. “The towers of 132 KV line were damaged around 10 years ago and we remained without electricity for weeks together. Now, the same issue has arisen again. This is complete developmental deficit,” they alleged.
The locals appealed to the governor to intervene in the issue and redress their grievances.
Power development department officials told Greater Kashmir that the power supply is lying snapped as the towers have broken down in the hills of Batote, Sigwari and Kulgadi. “Men and machinery are on the job, but it will take a few more days for complete restoration,” they said.
