Despite many central and state schemes being implemented to ensure electricity to each household in the state, people of several habitations in Khara of Inderwal constituency here are craving to see their houses illuminated. For these areas, according to locals, the central schemes like RGGBY have remained a non-starter.
"Imagine living in a world with little or no light when the sun sets. That's the plight of estimated 2000 villagers in Chella Mohalla Indloo in Khara tehsil of Inderwal constituency. We are left completely to fend for ourselves," a group of local residents said.
"Kerosene lamps provide light to us. Timber provides fuel for cooking," they said.
The area is barely 10 kms from the tehsil headquarters and faces numerous problems like drinking water shortage, dilapidated roads, absence of health centres and dearth of educational institutions. But the gravest of the problem all is electricity, locals said.
"Many villages here have not seen electricity so far. There are no electric poles even set up so far. We are living without electricity and there has been no progress despite repeated assurances by local legislator during 2014 election campaign," the residents said.
